Current measurement

Current velocity and direction are measured using a Sensordata 6000 Current Meter.  The meter is deployable to depths of 100 meters and can be deployed for varying lengths of time depending on sample interval settings with velocity and direction averaged over the sampling interval.  MER collects current data primarily for aquaculture permitting purposes but has also deployed its meters in collaboration with the Gulf of Maine Lobster Foundation to study the effects of currents on floating polyethylene groundlines used in offshore lobster fishing.
